Hizb ut-Tahrir is a global Islamic political party established in 1953 by the erudite scholar, author, judge and activist from Palestine al-Qadi Taqiuddin an-Nabhani (rh) along with a group of other scholars including Sh. Abd al-Qadeem Zalloum and Sh. Ahmad al-Daour. The current leader of the party is Sh. ‘Ata ibn Khaleel. He resides in and works from the Muslim world.
The party globally represents one entity under one central leadership, and in this regard, is, by the grace of Allah, the largest Islamic political party in the world. The party is active throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, South-East Asia, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Europe, Australia and the Americas.
In the Muslim world, we work at all levels of society to bring the Muslims back to living an Islamic way of life under the shade of the Khilafah. The Khilafah is the general leadership of the Muslims around the World which implements the Islamic Shari’ah comprehensively. As such, it is also the solution to the many problems faced in the Muslim World, because our solutions lie in Islam and the only true Islamic system is the Khilafah.
All the scholars of Islam agree that it is an obligation on the Muslims to appoint a Khalifah and thereby to implement the Shari’ah.
Hizb ut-Tahrir adopts the methodology of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) when he established the first Islamic State in Madinah. The Prophet Muhammad limited his struggle for the establishment of the Islamic State to intellectual and political work. He worked to mobilise public opinion in favour of Islam and endeavoured to sway the political and intellectual elites of the time.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is therefore proactive in disseminating the Islamic intellectual and political thoughts widely in Muslim societies so as to challenge the existing status quo. We present Islam as a comprehensive way of life that is capable of managing the affairs of state and society. We disseminate our thoughts through discussion with people, study circles, lectures, seminars, leaflet distribution, publishing books and magazines and the like.
In the West, Hizb ut-Tahrir works to cultivate a Muslim community that lives by Islam in thought and deed, adhering to the rules of Islam and preserves a strong Islamic identity. This includes the work to resist forced assimilation of Muslims which western governments seek to do under the pretext of ‘counter-terrorism’.
Whilst we do not work in the West to change the system of government, we do carry Islam intellectually as the solution to the malaise of secular liberalism which has led humanity for three centuries now and failed her miserably.
The work to establish Islam is an obligation on all Muslims. Therefore we call you to work with us to fulfill this obligation.
